November's Bein' Thankful Series-When God Calls You, Will You Step Out?

November's Bein' Thankful Series -
When God Calls You, Will You Step Out?

I was eatin’ at the Frog Holler CafĂ© for lunch last week.  A man came in ‘n ordered a plate to go.  After the waitress, Mary Alice, gave him his meal, she told him how much it cost.  The man said, “I don’t have enough money. Can I come back ‘n pay you later?” She let him take it.

November's Bein' Thankful Series: Not Just Any Ole Tree

November's Bein' Thankful Series:
Not Just Any Ole Tree

Growin’ up I remember this big oak tree in our back yard.  My sister 'n I loved to play under it in the summer, cause it gave a lot a shade.  When a storm came up, we’d run to the house ‘n watch the old tree from the window.  The wind would shake the limbs ‘n blow the leaves. We were afraid that the wind would blow the tree over.

November Bein' Thankful Series: City Slicker

November Bein' Thankful Series: Thankful for Laughter
City Slicker

Cousin Horace was born ‘n raised in the big city of Chicago.  We were two years apart in our age.  Growin’ up, he ‘n his Mamma would come ‘n visit us for a couple of weeks in the summer.  Cousin Horace was kind of snooty ‘cause he was from a big city.  We loved to give him a hard time when he came to visit us in Frog Holler ‘n called him, City Slicker.

Maybelline Belle is one of my best customers. She came in the other day all tore up! I asked her what had happened. Maybelline started cryin'. Gushin' big tear drops from her eyes! You would have thought somebody had died or somethin'! She used up all the boxes of kleenex in my beauty parlor.

November's Bein' Thankful Series-
Daddy's Flag

Daddy was a patriotic man. He loved God, his family, his country, ‘n his flag. He proudly displayed his fag on a flag pole in his front yard.  He loved to watch it wave bravely in the breeze.

November's Bein' Thankful Series: Ridin' The Waves

November's Bein' Thankful Series:
Ridin' The Waves

Every time I'm at the beach, I remember, when I was little, Daddy would take me 'n my sister out in the ocean to ride the waves. He held me in one arm 'n my sister in the other. As long as Daddy was holdin’ me, I felt safe.

Grandpa had twin mules, Nell 'n Pearl. They were good mules n' didn't mind hard work. But if they got spooked, watch out! They'd take off runnin! Daddy often helped do the plowin’.
